Spectra APCT: Sensitivity to Platelets Spectra APCT and Platelet Reserve A comparison of four activators for sensitivity to platelet factor 3 is shown below. Silica, kaolin and ellagic acid demonstrate little to no sensitivity to the presence of platelets. Spectra APCT is dramatically effected by dilution of platelets.
I n the platelet reserve procedure, platelet rich plasma is diluted with platelet depleted plasma. The amount of platelets needed to support intrinsic system clotting is determined by noting the smallest percent of platelet rich plasma needed to produce normal clotting. The sensitivity of four APTT style reagents to platelets was determined via this procedure. Patented Spectra APCT was the only reagent with this capability.Figure 1. A platelet reserve procedure was performed using Spectra APCT, silica, kaolin and ellagic acid. Only Spectra APCT could detect differences in platelet concentrations.
